Injection (oral options exist)

Semaglutide

A GLP-1 medication that quiets appetite and steadies blood sugar.

What it is

Semaglutide acts on the same signal as GLP-1, a hormone your gut makes after you eat. It tells your brain you're full and slows how fast your stomach empties. Compounded oral versions exist too; those are not the FDA-approved brand.

What it's used for

Appetite control, steadier blood sugar, and steady weight loss when it's paired with protein and strength training.

How it's taken

A small under-the-skin injection you give yourself at home. The prescribing provider sets the dose and schedule, and the pharmacy sends written instructions with your order. We walk you through the first one if you'd like. If the provider prescribes an oral version, you take it by mouth instead.

What to expect

Most people notice smaller portions and fewer cravings in the first few weeks. Nausea or constipation are common early on and usually ease as the dose settles. We track your scans so the weight you lose is fat, not muscle.

Who it's not for

  • Anyone who is pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or nursing.
  • Anyone under 18.
  • Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.
  • Anyone with a history of pancreatitis, unless the provider clears it.
  • The partner medical intake asks about your health history and current medications, and the provider decides whether it's a fit.
